ESTHER- (2)
Can you imagine a young girl in this situation? The king declares a beauty pageant of sorts.
He knew this would likely
Weaken his domain
And with passion and restrain said
Before this day is over, the noble women
Of this magnificent kingdom
Will hear about the queen’s act
And some might same react
This cannot go on, for it will sure spawn
The result of more contempt and fury
So I recommend we solve this in a hurry
Before there is confusion
And a coming flurry
So one advisor spoke up
Oh king, see if this makes sense…
For only with the Kings consensus
If it meets his approval
And I hope it doesn’t seem senseless
He should personally issue a royal decree. Let it be recorded only by thee to be
For in the laws of the Persians and Medes,
Surrender her title and lose her crown
Make it that it cannot be revoked
Or to even so concede
Thereby order Vashti to not again enter
The Kings presence or her royal position
For make it to be given
To another woman that you see
Who is more worthy than she.
And the king should so decree
So it will be heard throughout
This vast kingdom with great shout
That each women will honor their husband
From the greatest to the least in the land
The king heartily consented to the proposal,
And he followed this advice with approval
Letters were sent to all the royal provinces,
That marriages should always
Hold true to their vows and promises
So each area, in its own script
And to each ethnic group be so equipped
In its own language,
That every man should be master
Of his own house to speak ever after
In the language of his own people
So that their families would indeed be stable
Some time later, he was thinking of her
And the Kings ire did cool and wasn’t so dire
And he remembered how he used to admire But now, what had his queen done?
And with no remorse needed to decide
What was to be the the fate of her?
For his bride had turned for the worse
And quite probably by it, he was still hurt
So to the king was said by one of his personal attendants, Sire if you please
Let there be made a search to bring
Forth beautiful young virgins for the king.
Let the king appoint agents
In each province of his kingdom,
With plenty of wisdom and patience
So that they may gather the beautiful
Young virgins to a harem type of school
Located at the city of Susa’s fortress
To make these girls look oh so gorgeous
They would then be given
A required beauty regimen
And then, after a time
The young woman who had
Made the highest impression
And who pleased the king
Would then become the new queen
This suggestion pleased the king,
And he did so accordingly bring
To set in motion this thing
Every young maiden dreamed of this notion
Meanwhile, at the gate in the town
There was a Jewish man
That worked for the crown
Named Mordecai son of Jair,
Of wisdom and stature could none compare
From the tribe of Benjamin
Son of Shimei, son of Kish,
His family had been taken, after much risk
Into exile from Jerusalem
With all the other captives who then lived
Mordecai was born in this land a native
For his fathers had been carried out & about
When King Nebuchadnezzar made the rout
And took the Jewish King Jeconiah out
Of Judah into exile for quite a long while
Now Mordecai was the adopted caregiver
For his younger cousin Hadassah
(Otherwise known as Esther),
For she had no father or mother to raise her.
The young woman was as a daughter to him
And had a beautiful figure and was radiant
Also smart as a whip, really quite brilliant When her father and mother passed
Mordecai had adopted this young lass
So when the king’s command and edict Became public knowledge to predict
Who the next queen would be
She didn’t care to think could it ever be me?
For it seemed many young women hoped And loftily dreamed it as so
And were gathered at the fortress of Susa
Esther too, was taken to this chateau
All the girls were instructed to know and be
Under close supervision by the eunuch
The keeper of the women who would pick
The young woman that pleased him best
That had so gained his favor
And he found this in Esther to never waiver
So he accelerated the process
Of her beauty treatments and her access
And also the special diet that she received.
He gave her seven hand-picked female
Servants who with her would leave
And go with her to the best quarters.
Esther did not reveal her ethnicity or order
Nor her family background,
Because Mordecai didn’t
Want it to be shown or even known
Every day Mordecai
Took a walk nearby the throne
In front of the harem’s courtyard
To learn how Esther was doing so far
So during the year he would learn
Before each young woman’s turn
To go to the King Ahasuerus,
The harem regulation for the girls among us
It required her to receive beauty treatments With oil of myrrh for six months
And then with perfumes and cosmetics
For another six months training in basics
When the young woman would see the king,
It was their best that they would bring
So she was given whatever she requested
To go with her from the harem so behested
She would go in the evening,
And then return in the morning
To a second entourage
Under the supervision of the aged eunich
The keeper of the kept women
She would never go to the king again,
Unless he summoned her by name.
Esther was the daughter of Abihail,
Mordecais’ cousin who had adopted her
So when her turn came to go to the king,
She listened to her trainer
For Esther had gained everyones’ favor
Because she did not ask for anything
Except what her keeper suggested.
When she finally was taken to the King
She was relaxed and well rested
Seen in the palace main
In the seventh year of his reign.
The king indeed found he loved Esther
More than all the women, even ones of fame
She won more favor and approval
From him than did any
Of the other virgin gals
He placed the royal crown on her head
And made her the new queen instead
The king then held a great banquet
For all his officials and staff.
It was deemed as Esther’s banquet
With simplicity, it almost made her laugh
